Walmart has issued a voluntary recall of its Mainstays brand five-piece card table and chair sets, warning that the chairs can collapse unexpectedly, posing not only a fall hazard but a risk of finger injury, including finger amputation. Personal injury and product liability attorneys in Orlando urge you to stop using these sets immediately.
Thus far, the multinational company has received 10 reports of injuries caused by the collapsing chairs. They include one finger imputation, three fingertip amputations, and multiple sprained or fractured fingers plus a sore back.
The 73,400 affected card table sets feature a black padded metal folding table and four black padded metal folding chairs and are marketed under the Mainstays brand. They were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at www.walmart.com from May 2013 through November 2013 for about $50. Look for the words “Made by: Dongguan Shin Din Metal & Plastic Products Co,” or “Made by: Taiwan Shin Yeh Enterprises” printed on a white label on the bottom of the chairs.
If you own one of the recalled sets and have not been injured, take the entire set to your nearest Walmart for a full refund.
